What virtues are covered in the study?

This study covers both the theological and cardinal virtues, along with many related virtues that help bring them to life in your child’s daily experience.

You will explore the theological virtues—faith, hope, and charity—and the cardinal virtues—prudence, justice, fortitude, and temperance—each with their corresponding virtues:

  • Temperance: honesty, chastity, self-control, humility
  • Justice: religion, obedience, generosity, kindness, citizenship
  • Prudence: wisdom, understanding, counsel, good deliberation
  • Fortitude: courage, patience, loyalty, diligence, magnanimity

What information is covered on each virtue?

For each theological and cardinal virtue, the study includes rich, multi-faceted content designed to form both the mind and heart:

  • Parent introductions with Catechism insights and practical ways to live the virtue as a family
  • Goal-setting pages to help you intentionally cultivate each virtue in your home
  • Explanations of the virtue rooted in Church teaching, written for children
  • Scripture passages, Saint stories, sacred art, hymns, and poetry to immerse your family in the beauty of the Faith
  • Thoughtful discussion questions and writing prompts for a wide range of ages and abilities
  • Literature pairings (picture books and chapter books) that highlight the virtue in story form
  • Nature study, hands-on activities, and celebration ideas to make learning joyful and memorable
  • Practical challenges to help your family live out each virtue in daily life

For each of the related virtues within the cardinal virtues, you will also find:

  • Clear explanations rooted in Church teaching and the Catechism
  • Scripture passages and Saint stories
  • Literature connections
  • Practical challenges for living the virtue

Altogether, this study offers a rich and cohesive path for helping your children understand, love, and live the virtues as they grow in holiness.

What age is this intended for?

All ages can enjoy this resource. It's designed to be family-style, to be used as a family with all spans of ages, but children ages 7-17+ will especially enjoy it!

How long will it take to complete?

This is completely up to you! As with all our materials, flexibility is a priority and we encourage you to utilize this resource in a way that fits your particular family and season.

Our recommendation is to do one or two sections under a virtue per week. Such pacing will allow for good engagement and sufficient time for contemplation.

As a group, you could journey through the entire book, cover-to-cover, as a comprehensive study on the virtues. A child could also work through the book individually.

Alternatively, you can use this resource on an as-needed basis. Does your child have questions about a particular virtue? Are you noticing the need for an increase in a particular virtue in your family? Grab this resource and dive right into that virtue. Or you could choose a handful of virtues to study throughout a school year.

You can complete each section under a virtue or you can choose which are most relevant to your child/family’s age, abilities, interests, and availability.

Is this resource re-usable, even with the same child?

Absolutely! Repetition is highly valuable when learning the Faith. A child(ren) can repeat this resource across multiple years.

Is this resource only for homeschooling families?

No. While many homeschooling families use our studies, they can be used by all Catholic families, regardless of educational approach.

Does this resource have the Imprimatur?

Yes, from William F. Medley, Bishop of Owensboro.

What if I choose the wrong resource for my family?

No sweat. You can check out our return policy here.
