I've written to you briefly before about my initial thoughts about AI and how it's revolution is impacting our home education (reminder: it's really not).
As I learn more about AI and continue to look forward to the Church's treatment of its moral use, there is one aspect that I *will* get soap-box-y about and it is this:
AI cannot create sacred art.
The creation of sacred art requires a human soul, one that is imperfect and searching for Truth.
Sacred art requires a wrestling. An understanding that it will be impossible to truly capture God's essence and that it is still worth attempting. This necessitates humility and hope, only made available to the human soul by divine grace.
Sacred art requires a mind capable of true contemplation. Of sitting in silence. Of slow observation. Of consideration of realities seen and unseen. Of trying and failing and trying again.
As the Church has reiterated through the centuries, sacred art is meant to lift the mind and heart to God and heavenly things. This path to meditation must be carved, then, by one who is lifting their mind and heart to God.
No, AI cannot create sacred art. Only humans can.
And, by God's grace, they'll continue to do so.
Nurturing minds and souls for heaven
Sacred art is a beautiful invitation to get closer to our Creator, to walk in his Love, and children are eager for this divine glimpse.
You can nurture their minds and souls for Heaven introducing them to sacred art through the beauty of our Catholic Picture Studies.
- Our Rosary Picture Studies are perfect to walk with Our Lady through Jesus' Joyful, Glorious, Luminous and Sorrowful mysteries.
- Our Blessed Fra Angelico Artist Study invites your family into prayerful observation of some key works on the life of Christ by Fra Angelico.
- Our Holy Week Picture Study immerses your students into the major moments of Jesus Passion, Death and Resurrection.
- The Picture Study on the Parables teaches us about the Kingdom of God and His Heart for the world.
I think AI and sacred art is a fascinating, ongoing conversation in our culture right now. What are your thoughts on this subject? Share with us in the comments below!
