Classical Catholic Religion Curriculum
While all of these resources contain the above elements, let's look at how they differ as a child grows in their Faith.
Level One: Introducing the Faith
Target Ages:
Primarily designed for grades K–3, but adaptable for the whole family.
Level One introduces young children to the Story of Salvation History, the mission and purpose of the Church, the Sacraments, the history of the early Church, and personal prayer and the call to holiness.
Family Use:
This level is ideal for families with younger children or mixed ages. It’s truly open-and-go, making it easy for parents to teach with confidence—even if they’re new to homeschooling or catechesis. Incorporate Level One into your morning basket or as a family religion block.
Level Two: Deepening Understanding
Target Ages:
Aimed at grades 4–6, but can be used with the whole family. This Level can be done with a parent or independently depending on reading level and familiarity with the Faith.
Level Two builds upon the foundation of Level One, offering deeper exploration of Scripture through Christological typology, the Sacraments in the Gospel of John, Church history to the Middle Ages, and personal prayer. Children will continue to engage with sacred art, learn to sing traditional hymns, and explore the truths of the Faith through beautiful, age-appropriate presentations.
Family Use:
While older students may work more independently, Level Two remains ideal for shared discussion and prayer time.
Level Three: Maturing in Faith
Target Ages:
Recommended for grades 7–9 but adaptable for family use or upper high school.
Level Three includes 72 presentations that allow for flexible pacing over a full year. This level dives deeper into the covenants of Salvation History, Church teaching, the moral life, Church history through the late Middle Ages, the form and matter of the Sacraments, virtue, and apologetics all while retaining the signature elements of beauty and simplicity. Students are invited to think critically and prayerfully as they grow in their relationship with Christ.
Family Use:
Level Three is an excellent part of preparation for Confirmation or high school theology studies.
Choosing the Right Level for Your Family
When selecting a level from Into the Deep, consider:
-
Ages and grade levels — Use as a guide, but adapt based on your particular family!
-
Family style — Levels One and Two are perfect for wide age ranges; Levels Two and Three also suit more independent learners.
-
Curriculum compatibility — At a suggested pace of 2 lessons/week, all three levels work beautifully alongside your current homeschool curriculum!
Do We Repeat Levels?
Yes, you can! Repetition is highly valuable, especially when it comes to catechesis.
You can repeat a level the following year, or cycle through. If you don't want to repeat a Level, but your child isn't ready to advance to the next Level, we recommend using one of our unit studies or picture studies in the interim!
